Just got an 81 Seca 750 and of course it doesn't run. Bike will sometimes start on full choke but stalls when given throttle. I'm going to remove the carbs and clean them. Any tips on removing the carbs? I'm waiting on a manual from fleabay.

    Welcome Gaillarry,
Spray the boots with WD-40 and use steady prying pressure with old hammer handles, or rebar with garden hose slipped over. Take your time.
Re-install with a block of wood over the throats, and pry them back on.

Buy the XJCD and search topic "old school" and "whole nine yards",
    "clunk test" and "manometer"

    That'll keep you busy ! :)

If you are going to be an XJ-Man; you have to outfit your tools inventory with a long, hard wood, 20-Ounce, framing, hammer handle.

Sand-down the end you'd normally insert into the hammer head and take-off the sharp edges.

You can pry-off Carbs using the Hammer Handle as a Pry Bar and not worry about marring the finish on the cases or the carbs.

Absolutely necessary for getting some good purchase and pushing those Carbs back into the Manifolds.

If you ding-up and mar the wood ... who cares?
But, scratched-up engine cases and carbs intakes hurt.

I tried contacting "Brad" also, just wanted to make sure I wasn't sending a money order out to oblivion.
It took over a month to arrive- - the most info you'll get for $10

If it were a bum deal, the good folks here would stop promoting it.

I have to agree... best $10 i ever spent. you have to understand that there is only 1 person dealing with orders in the US and he does it in his spare time.

Mine only took a week to get but i've heard others say that it can take quite longer.

Just got my 81 Seca out and trying to bring it back from a 8 year retirement. Looks like me and Chacal will get to be knowing each other real soon. I just took carbs off to clean, pry the boots back into the air cleaner housing will make removal of carbs much easier. Remove them after you get the carbs off and clean them. Good luck with cleaning the carbs, they can be a bear.

Got the carbs off and the jet in the float bowls are plugged. I'll soak them in carb cleaner overnight and hopefully they'll be clear by morning!!

I read the post about cleaning the jet in the float bowls, where can I get the drill bit to clean them?

You can order one from Chacal for about $11 and then figure out a way to hold it, and not snap it off while using it, or. . .

You can pull a single bristle from a wire brush, straighten out the "U"
(they are 3 inches long) and carefully use that with carb cleaner. Or. . .

You can buy a welder's tip cleaner set. Remember to run a wire into the tiny brass pilot emulsion tube (X 4) I had gunk hidden there.
