Does anybody happen to know an easy way to stip paint from plastic emblems?

I wan't to try this guys technique http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=4071828 to paint the sidecover emblems but the previous owner seems to have taped them up painting around them. Looks like a lot seeped through onto the emblems plus the gold is long faded.

The backrest I have haa this heavy brass nickel/somekind of gold MAXIM emblem. I was able to use synthetic steel wook and some polishing compound to strip this but am not sure to do for the plastic.

Soaking in straight PineSol will remove paint from plastics, but if you leave the part soaking in the PineSol too long the plastic will soften. You have to check it every 5 or 10 minutes. It works for most paints but for the gold or silver lettering, I don't know.

Brake fluid works too, as does oven cleaner. There is also a product offered through hobby shops for exactly the purpose.

I've used rubbing alcohol with good results. Get the strongest one you can get.
