Taking apart my daughter's '82 XJ750 for a paint job, we noticed that the handlebars were needing to be replaced. The original plastic coverings are long gone, so what handlebar can we get the pretty much directly replaces the original, but in chrome?

She really likes the way the XJ rides right now, so is not looking to alter the geometry at all, she just wants a new, shiny bar.

    Thanks for the help

Depends if you are talking about the 750 Maxim or 750 Seca

Her bike is a Seca, but we have removed the Atari and the handlebar coverings.

Then you need Seca handlebars unless you want to swap the front to a Maxim front......
Or be ready to turn the front into a mutt

That's what I'm asking. Where can I get Seca handlebars, chrome, with the same geometry? When ordering handlebars, I need to know rise, pull-back, etc. I'm wondering if anyone already knows what to order. And possibly from where.

Weird. . . So there is nobody in this forum that has successfully found a retailer that will sell them a pair of 7/8 bars in 29 inch width with 10 inch rise and 6 inch pullback?

Nowhere? Hmm. . . I'll have to see if there is any other handlebar options my daughter is open to.

    Thanks for the info

Chacal sells them or go to just about any online motorcycle parts distributor.
Here is Fortnine, https://fortnine.ca/en/motorcycle-gear where I got them for a 650 Seca.
I'm not actually suggesting Fortnine since they are Canadian. You have many options in the US.
However, Fortnine lists 358 different handlebars, just saying.

Thanks for that. I have found many places willing to sell handlebars that are close to the 750 Seca geometry, but not exact. We will just have to try one on for size and if that doesn't work for my daughter, we can try a different set. I was just hoping someone had an excellent source for replacements with exact geometry, but in chrome. I really did not want to trail-and-error this issue, but se la vie

You could always have your original bars chromed........you'd have to cut off the mounting tabs for the covers (if you no longer plan to use them) .

The EMGO classic bars are the closest to stock that I've found, but there is no aftermarket bar that has exactly the same bend as stock.

I did find the EMGO bars in my search and hope they will be good enough. I also found one at dimecitycycles.com that looks close:
    https://www.dimecitycycles.com/7-8-yamaha-xs-style-handlebars-chrome.html# Rise:10 pullback:4 width:29
    https://www.motorcycleid.com/emgo/emgo-classic-handlebar-2365271108.html Rise:9.5 Pullback:9.5 width:29.5

Neither are very expensive, so I will start with the EMGO and if that won't work, then jump on the others

These days, anything listed with a 10 inch rise is called a mini-ape bar, but their geometry looks wonky for what I'm needing

    Thanks for your help

I don't think the 10" rise dimension is anywhere near correct for XJ750 Seca bars............

This measurement is taken from the Parts list posted in section:
XJ PARTS CATALOG, SECTION K: STEERING and SUSPENSION

    1981-83 XJ750 Seca models:
    overall width = 29"
rise at grip ends = 10"
pullback at grip ends = 6"
NOTE: the 750 Seca bars have numerous handlebar shrouding "tabs" welded onto them along their length, designed to hold the soft vinyl handlebar upper and lower covers, and do not look very attractive when they are un-shrouded, i.e. "naked".

If that is not correct, then I have been searching for the wrong bars.

Yes, I think there may be an error in those listings...........I'll check tomorrow on a bike and see if these dimensions are correct. It's the 10" rise that seems off..........

unless you've been on the bike for a few hours with only gas stops, there's no way to know if you really like the bars
    otherwise they just look nice

Agreed. My stock bars are in one of about a million boxes, but I do know that the EMGO classic bars do not have the same rise as stock.

    That's an idea. . .

We go on a spring trip every year (except this, Covid year) that is a motorcycle-camping, 2000 mile, week long trip. This is why the handlebar geometry is so important. What she has now, she says is perfect, but the bars are ugly (and I'm sure they are slightly bent).

She also uses the bike for commuting, when appropriate.

We will throw a few dollars at a solid replacement, but in the end I might have to go after the stock bars with a grinder, the Oxy-acetylene, and some chrome-like powder-coat. All of these things I can do in-house.

Thanks for all of your help guys!

Well, I went and re-measured, and those specs are actually correct. Maybe they can be corrected about 1/2" in the pull-back and the rise, depending on exactly where at the end of the handlebars the measurement is taken (centerline, or the very farthest possible distance), but basically these are the measurements for the XJ750 Seca bars:

    width = 29"
    rise at grip = 9.5"
    pullback at grip = 7"
