I found an exhaust i like but i am uncertain if it will be usable with my bike. It is a 4 into 2 exhaust, but my bike is 4 into 1. My bike has the 4 pipes coming out of the heads and they all connect into 1 big pipe that the muffler attaches to. The item says it fits xj650's 1980-1983. Do i need different pipes coming out of my head in order to change over to the 4 into 2 or will my 4 into 1 work, maybe with some sort of adapter or something?

You will probably need a complete system.

You will have to change out the headers. The 4 to 1 headers are bent to converge at a single point. Trying to make them work will put stress on the cylinder head which could cause it to crack at the exhaust ports.
