Hi all, I know XJ fuse boxes are a major headache, and a lot of you have opted to switch them out for newer plastic fuses. I need to swap mine out of my 82' 550 because one of the wings is broken off and the fuse is currently being held by electrical tape. Thing is, I don't really want to modify much to get a plastic replacement.

So, I found this online: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/XS-XJ-FZ-Fuse-box-replacement-Yamaha-XS1100-XS11-XS650-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem35a9da79efQQitemZ230482934255QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

You think this will work fine for my bike, I don't think I'll have any problems as I always keep my bike under cover and take care of her.

Why not just fix the existing one then? (Replacement clips from Radio Shack.)

I would still recommed upgrading to a modern "blade type" fusebox though.

My 1982 XJ750J Maxim has the same wire configuration......

    Rick-o-Matic,

In my earlier post, that is the way I have it wired to the new fuseblock....

I took your advice and bought the fuse holders from Radio Shack and pried off the metal parts, which fit nicely where the old ones did. Now to solder on the wires.

Solder on the wire with the clip OUT, make sure the wire is in the position it's going to end up. Slip into place once cooled down. Otherwise you'll melt plastic.

also, for anyone putting in a blade style box, be sure to get the large style. I made the mistake of doing the mini blade fuses and then noticed that I have NEVER seen these fuses available at a 7-11 in the middle of the night. Luckily I carry a fist full of spares.

The newly soldered clips work wonderfully, only thing was, I needed a 10 amp fuse and couldn't find one ANYWHERE. Radioshack; nothing, advance auto; zip. I finally looked up the type (AGX 10A are the ones!) and found them through Grainger, called em up and they shipped a 5 pack to my local store in a day, picked em up for less than 5 bucks. It's a good thing I have a spare 20A still and now 4 spare 10s cause hell if I'll be able to find these again locally.
