Hey guys, I stripped my last oil pan, so I bought a replacement. I have the old oil pan off, but I cannot get the oil sensor thing off. I took the two bolts off of the oil level sensor, thinking it would pop off, but it is on there. Am i missing something or is it just on there tight from being on there for 30 years?

do I just pop this off with a flat edge screwdriver or is there some method to this?

Looks to me it's the 2 bolts and an O-RING that hold it in. I'd say you're safe to CAREFULLY pry out the assembly with a flathead, work side to side slowly, once the o-ring clears the case it'll fall right out i'm sure.

I put the pan on, and added oil. It leaks good out of the rear/ left side and the bolt in front of it. Those are the holes that have those two circles that look like they hook to some sort of ground wire. Is there something special I do to prevent these holes from leaking?

Was there any gaskets on the oil pan when you took it off? Did you replace a gasket on the pan? Was there a gasket at all on the flat flange of the sensor?

Just sounds like it's a gasket that isn't right.

According to the fiche, there are 13 bolts that hold the pan on; how many did you install?

And did you use a new gasket? New o-ring on the sending unit?

ok, this isn't getting any better. I replaced the pan...it leaks a bit still :(

I took it for a drive for a few mins...after I parked it it was smoking.....what would this be, or is it perhaps just some oil i got on something...or did i completely screw something up?

no, what it was is oddly i put the ground in between the pan and the body...instead of the ground thing between the pan and the bolt. wow what a brain fart.

i fixed it though and it still leaks a bit

You may have damaged the gasket when you mounted the wiring tab incorrectly. Did you loosen the entire pan before pulling out the mounting tab?

yes i did...i loosened them all, but i did not replace the old gasket (I do have a replacement gasket), but the old gasket stuck up top and wouldnt come off. My mechanic said to put some black gasket stuff on the new old pan and stick it on the old gasket instead of putting a new gasket on....

Doing that, you HAVE to make sure it cures before you put oil back in it, I'd let it sit for a couple days after putting the pan back on to make sure.

Ohfercryinoutloud. How many times you wanna take this thing apart?

USE A NEW GASKET; get all mating surfaces dentally clean and spray both sides of the gasket with high-tack spray gasket sealer.

Then button it up, torque the bolts to spec and be done with it. You don't have to wait for high-tack to "cure" you can go ahead and fill it back up right away. And it won't leak.

I was looking for the wires that the oil sensor plugs into. Are they the wires that run right along the frame beside the oil pan?
