Well, as you can see from my prior post I thought I had located this part from xtreme sports. Unfortunately, as I noted in that post, the Yamaha system has some conflict with this part and a circlip. After making several calls, it appears that the part has been discontinued by Yamaha and there are no aftermarkets available either. Thus, I am once again searching for a reservoir diaphragm for a front master cylinder for my '82 XJ750RJ. I would like to just buy the diaphragm, but if required I'll buy the entire master cylinder since it appears I am screwed as far as having front brakes without this part. I don't have the CDs and can't tell if there's any cross referenced diaphragms that will fit the bike, but if anyone has any other ideas out there for me, it is appreciated. Thanks . . .

Just need to ask if you saw my last post in your other thread......

If part is N.L.A. then your only other option is to find a used mastercylinder from other sources (ebay, local wrecker) unless someone has a spare that they want to part with!

Nick - again, appreciate the response. That 5G2 number is for the same part as the 99001-09600-00. Plus, my bike is an '82 Seca 750, so it only being available on the '81 and '83 doesn't even make any sense to me either. Somehow Yamaha's system apparently has two parts under the same number, and when it is put into the system the circlip comes up. I talked to them directly and was told that the part has been discontinued. Beyond feeling stupid for misplacing the damn part in the first place, I'm desperate to get riding again! The guy I have homing and putting my front brakes back together said he tried many substitutes to no avail - nothing will hold the pressure in the system. And to my recall, the reservoir is uniquely shaped and (argghh) jammed underneath the headlamp.

So, everyone out there, I'm still looking for this diaphragm, and if anyone has one they can sell me I'd be eternally grateful. Again, I'd rather not buy an entire master cylinder but will understand if someone requires it in order to get this part.

Thanks again Nick - I have some salvage places looking as well, but want to get the word out here too since there's so many XJ users and fans like myself.

    Paul

The part you're looking for should fit the '81 to '83 Seca models.
I was looking at Yamaha's web site and for what ever reason in 1982 they used the 99001-09600-00 part number for it. The '81 and '83 models show the 5G2 number.

I have the same master cyl tucked way up under where you can't really get at it so I know what part you're looking for.

jeepsteve - unfortunately, master cylinder rebuild kits contain only the guts and not the diaphragm or lids - this site has a grand total of 3 reservior rebuild kits, none for Yamaha. Truly appreciate the effort and the response tho!

NICK ! - Much respect for your efforts -

Doesn't appear like that one is gonna help me - I can't tell the shape of that one from the photo, but it is a rear, and mine is a front with a hex shape.

I thought I had a replacement on the line but haven't had a response from the guy for a couple days, so keeping my fingers crossed. Rickomatic gave me some good advice on a temp replacement I'm gonna try out. Will make sure to end this thread if I get the 'phragm - otherwise, anyone out there that has this part, lemme know !

again - thanks for keeping your eyes open!

It sure looks like the cable operated front master cylinder off our Seca's

I'm not aware of any "rear" hydraulic brakes on any xj750's or xj650's as the lister is reporting. I believe he's not familiar with the front mounted cable driven master cyl and has mislabled the part.

you were right Nick - it was a front MC. But it was for a 650 single caliper. Its gone now anyway, but am I incorrect in assuming it wouldn't work with a dual caliper like my stock ?

I believe that master cylinder was only used on the XJ750 Seca's which all had dual disk brakes!

From what I can find, the XJ650's had the master cylinder on the handlebars!

think you're absolutely right Nick - I was hesitant to pick up the ebay one cause I didn't get a reply for better photos of the lid, since I was wanting to match up mine, which is kind of six-sided and not square, and it just didn't look quite the same as mine. So, uncertainty made me hesitant, and from experience this far, hesitancy is not what you want when trying to obtain discontinued parts from 1982!

In any case, I didn't go for it because I had someone on the line who said they may have had access to the part, and it turned out they do - so I should have a used MC coming my way next week at a good price.

thanks again - the desire of people on this site to help out is great, and restores one's faith in the good in people. As I noted, I'm a relative novice at this stuff since I had kept the bike in such great shape up until 2 years ago, and really didn't need much but general maintenance. Anyway, long story long, thanks to everyone for looking, and especially to Nick and Rick for your help.
