I have an ‘82 XJ550 Maxim that I’ve revently converted into a brat/cafe racer. After I swapped my bars I noticed that the bike has an issue where I pull the clutch in, it revs higher. Or if I come to a stop and put the bike in neutral, the rpms stay at around 3-3500, and come down to idle rev after 30-45 seconds. Another problem I’m having is if I rev the throttle for a quick second it hovers around 3 grand for about 5 seconds and then comes down to idle. Help!

stuck throttle cable. If the only change you made to your bike was the bars, then you have an issue with the cable sticking, or the throttle tube getting stuck.

Completely remove the throttle cable from the carb. Let the bike idle without the cable connected the with your finger engage the throttle to see if the issue still occurs. If so, you then need to add extra slack to your cable and/or lube it

Alternatively, the clutch isnt disengaging all the way, again an adjustment issue, or the cables are too tight, or routed wrong with a sharp bend in them causing them to hang up /stick.
