there's something in the housing that the cable goes through that stops the throttle tube(pipe looking part that the cable end hooks into)
from going forward. your on the wrong side of that stop

Did you wrap the cable in the wrong direction on the handlebar sleeve? That would do it.

I had a similar question on one of my threads, except I want to make mine like this, sort of. It has to do with some crazy handle bars. Anyhow, all I wanted to know is it fine it I make it so I have to push forward? Is this a bad idea, is there a reason they twist the direction they do? If not, I am so changing mine around.

your wrist is going to get tired real fast on the open road
if the bike falls over going forward it would twist the throttle open, but if someone stole your bike you'd find them in the first ditch

    I am thinking about putting them on a bike for cruising around town, not something to be driving for long periods of time. Also, I am wanting to make handlebars like what this...thing, has on it;

    http://www.bikeexif.com/rotax-motorcycle

So I don't imagine if it falls over in any direction that the throttle will open up, handlebars will hit the ground, but throttle looks fairly protected.

Added bonus is finding the bike thief down the road in a ditch, bike probably screwed up, but probably would be anyhow if someone stole it, I don't think thieves respect the stuff they steal, and at least he is screwed up too and caught.

One thing to consider is that under braking, especially hard braking, your hand will have a tendancy to roll the throttle forward. So instead of slowing down with the brakes you may have the throttle fighting the braking action.
    Just sayin.

That is what the clutch is for? I haven't started fabricating the handlebars yet, I haven't worked out the details. I am still working on a design. It was just a thought, it would be easy to turn the throttle around, but then it twists forward. How hard is it to make a grip work twisting the opposite direction?

I've seen bikes with that sort of bar in person; the throttle works the same as any other (roll back to accelerate).

Oh yeah, its possible, just brainstorming and what not. Thought forward twist would be interesting, and the last time I saw the throttle on the bike I thought it might have to be turned 180 degrees, which would mean it would have to twist forward.

I would not recomend the reversed throttle my man. it takes some getting used to, and once you get used to it your gonna have problems riding something with a regular throttle. beleive me if it was fun i wouldnt be trying to correct it!! haha

Thank for the info guys.. ill see if it helps

I don't think I would forget how to use a normal throttle if I reversed the one on my bike. The first time I rode, ever, was when I bought a late 80's FZ750 Genesis (My First bike) and rode it home. I think about it now, was not the best idea, for sure, but I mean I have never had a problem riding any motorcycle. I saw that FZ750 on the side of the road in a farmers field with a for sale sign, I stopped, asked how much, he said $500 and you can ride it home. That was exactly what I did, paid cash, hopped on and took off toward town, never missing a shift, never stalling. Rode it home like a pro. Again, still was a terrible idea, but I don't think I can forget how to ride a normal bike, bikes are in ma blood! Ahh, having a trip down memory lane now. I miss that bike a bit...

Now the trigger throttle, that is what sounds sketchy to me! I don't think I could get used to one of those.

Snowmobiles aren't too hard to come by in Canada, still thinking the trigger throttle would be sketchy. I think I will stick to a twist grip for now.

There are a few things to consider, no matter what you do. How much liability will there be to you should someone else ever ride the bike and have an accident? Are you going to disclose the change to your insurance company? Will they cover you with the change to the throttle? If you don't disclose the change and there is an accident will you be covered, or will the policy be voided because of the non-standard throttle? I'm not saying don't' do it, but be damned sure your ass is covered if you do.

Yes, sorry about that. I thought I had already set my location. Don't get me started on the Flames, or anything Hockey after the lockout.

alright so i finally got a chance to mes with it last night and it seems that my stock Throttle cable is too short for my after market throttle body. does that make any sense?
