Ok, I know this post is going to sound a bit...ummm...effiminate (that's gay for you non-dictionary likers :D ) but it's something I've wondered about lately. I'd really like to ride my bike to work, but one of the problems I have is that I wear a helmet everytime I ride. How is this a problem, well, I work in an architectural firm where I have to have a fairly professional appearance and slapping a helmet on my freshly "styled" hair in the morning does not work with that.

So, here's the question. What do you guys (and girls, but mostly the guys) do when you ride your bike to work? Do you run around with helmet hair all day? Do you bring a cap to cover up the fuzz? Does your briefcase resemble a purse?

I ride everyday and work in a corporate environment.

Trick is not to put any crap in your hair and keep it short ;)

I either buzz my head to 1/4 inch or wear a hat... or just keep my motorcycle jacket on so people know why the hair is flat.

Of course I'm a university student, not an architect (YET!!).

I work as a manager in an office so appearance is important. Dress shirt, dress pants and hats are not permitted. When I ride to work I wear jeans and put my dress pants in a backpack. I wear the dress shirt under my riding jacket. When it comes to hair, I keep it fairly short but usually put some gel in it in the mornings. When I ride, I put nothing in - ride to work with my helmet and then wet things down in the washroom at work and then put some gel in.

Just reading my last post - makes no sense. I mean to say, dress shirt and pants required - hats not allowed.

I gotta quit drinking in the mornings!

Hums the tune to a well known Carly Simon song while pondering the correct reply..........

Personally not a problem for me as I work in manufacturing. Welding grinding etc usually means a shirtful of holes. I ride every day I can but also go for the short hair. My hairstylist is a 25 dollar pair of clippers and a bathroom mirror. It is after all 2007 and the trend seems to be more towards short hair than girly hair.

But, If your worried about it then either carry your hairdryer and fairy products in a backpack or keep a spare set at work to poof it up when you get there in the ladies room.

*Note, most of the above is in jest and any pisstaking done regarding your manly status is purely intended as fun.*

    Maybe.

I will second the bald head and raise you a short ring of hair around the sides. Kinda like John Luke Picard on star treck. Then off comes the helmet when I get to work and on goes the hat. Working on big rigs does have it perks I guess.

I just don't wear one when I drive the bike to work. I don't wear one at all come to think of it.I haven't got a ticket yet. Oh I am sorry, We don't have a helmet law down here. Not much help I guess.

I don't have to wear a helmet, but since I do enjoy the company of my wife and she would stroke out with worry if I didn't wear one, I'm nice and make the concession for her.

Honestly, I'm quite appreciative of the amount of honest and helpful answers I received. I'm surprised there were so few girly-man comments. :D

Of course, I'm working hard on the bald thing myself, maybe if I keep wearing helmets, I won't have to worry about the hair much longer. :D

yep...short hair, and if it mats down, just go to the bathroom and wet it a bit, then I'm good.

Yup - short hair is the answer for those of us who wear helmets constantly (by law here in Canada). A nice crew-cut or flat-top means little to no messing with hair, looks sharp, and completely not bothered by helmet wear 8)

Remember that if you were to not wear a helmet and ride to work anyway, you in effect would be "blow drying" your hair from the ride. So make a choice of helmet hair or the extreme blown look.
