Looking for some recommendations for good riding gear, looking for a new jacket and pants.

I've seen some jackets that are three in one that can be mixed\matched for the weather:
    Protection layer
    Waterproof layer
    Insulation layer

Any recommendations? What do you find works best?

I'm happy with my tourmaster jacket, but it can be a bit heavy in the middle of summer

I've been looking at the FirstGear Kilimanjaro jacket and their Kathmandu pants.

Waterproof with removable thermal layers, and they have the new D3O armor (flexible foam that solidifies on impact, neat stuff).

Pricey, but hard to put a price on comfort and safety.

    But is it overkill?

I have a TourMaster Transitions Series 2 for cooler/potentially wet weather; and a Cortech DSX armored denim jacket for warmer/dry weather.

Both choices were greatly influenced by the fact that these particular jackets come in "tall" sizes. That being said, I'm very happy with both of them.

Love my Tourmaster Flex jacket. Thanks to the vents I'm usually the only rider in the pack who isn't a sweaty mess after a hot summer ride.
Still a mess, perhaps, just not so sweaty.

I also have a pair of Tourmaster 'Solutions' waterproof (no lie) riding boots (with strategically placed armor pads) as well as a couple of Cortech tank bags; a "mini" for daily use, and a 14L for trips, both magnetic mount. I'm extremely pleased with all of their stuff; and if you lose a snap they'll send you a replacement kit.

And I have to say, I truly love the armored denim jacket for the hot hot summertime. Yes, the Transitions jacket has vents, so does the denim. No "explosion in a flag factory" graphics, just a nice faded denim. With armored shoulders and sleeves and a spine protector. (It's just not waterproof.)

Where were these guys when we needed them, in like, 1971?

My friend from work has the kilimanjaro jacket and he loves it. He rides well into the cold weather. I have a tourmaster draft for hot days and a joe rocket with liner for colder weather.

I like them. They really are waterproof (tested) and very comfortable. The only "downside" is that being waterproof, they don't "breathe" that well.

I got them because the western-styled work boots I used as riding boots for years on the Norton were too "clunky" for the XJ's small shift lever and precise gearbox. I was looking for something more flexible and "tennis-shoe like" without sacrificing safety (I won't ride in tennies) and they certainly fit the bill.

They have 4 ~ 5 seasons on them now and are holding up quite well.

    Highly recommended.

Motorcyclegear.com have the Solutioin 2 on for a decent price, and are currently the front runners

My old JR's are far from woterproof, and with the amount of rain I have to ride through NEED waterproof gear lol

    Time for a full swapout
