    Hi Guys,
Stripping a XJ900 RN engine and find that behind the right side crank case cover, there seems to be.... nothing!

Gotta say, that took me by suprise.
I don´t know what I was expecting but not this!
I have scoured the manual and there is no mention of this.

Another observation is that the inside of the cover plate seems to look almost the same as the other side with the timing plate. Could this be some kind of spare cover supplied by Yamaha hidden on the other side of the bike?

That is normal. The hole is needed to bore the case when manufacturing and the cover is simply installed during installation. The covers are different and only fit the side they were made for. They may fit the opposite side(I've never tried but looks like it *might* flip) but the logo would be upside down.

    Thanks Jay
On this engine, the cover for this side is cracked.
Seeing there is no fluids or gasket, then no replacement required.

Yup, no gasket on that side as there is nothing under there to protect :)

That's where the Meth goes when you come back from Mexico. Thought everyone knew that.
