Just a springtime reminder to go over your nuts and bolts before going out in this beytooful weather. I had the XJ11 out for a spin & I always wear silicone ear plugs to keep the wind off my eardrums & things sound much more clear. So I was thinking it sounded more like a put put bike than an inline 4. I felt around the exhaust but couldn't tell any leaks so I let the engine cool and then tightened the round nuts on the exhaust manifold and they were all loose but one, some I needed a whole revolution to tighten. Started the engine & there was the sound I was expecting. I know it was sounding fine when I put it away last fall. Maybe it had gradually worsened and it all seemed normal back in December but it sure was not right this last weekend. Now it's pristine... :p

Moral o'course is that we should take a torque wrench to all the nuts & bolts & be sure everything is to spec before taking us and our loved ones out for that first ride of the season.

    Ride safe

Just thought I'd highlight the letting the engine cool first part, it's too easy for the less experienced/more enthusiastic amongst us to forget this crucial step before torqueing engine fasteners... Don't want the EZ-out & Helicoil makers growing TOO fat off us
