So I got a round headlight and mounts for it not realizing that the headlight mounts won't fit because of my master cylinder mount. My PO filed off the ears tar mount the original square headlight. I was wondering if anyone has made the conversion to a round headlight like this from the square one and what they did about the mastercylinder. I'll post pics later to give you guys an idea. Would it be as simple as getting a brake lever with re master cylinder on it? Any feedback will help. Willing to trade this round headlight for the square one if proper mounting gear comes with it.

    Thanks guys
    Josh

I would think a handlebar-mounted master cylinder similar to that on the 550 and 650 Secas would allow you to eliminate the remote setup. You will probably need one with a larger reservoir because of the dual calipers.

check with chacal, I think the 1100 had one like that...

I am curious about this as well. I have a 1982 650 maxim and I can't wait to get rid of the square headlight. Any tips on the conversion would be very helpful.

The 650 Seca has dual disks up front. You could use the master cylinder off one of those bikes.

Re: Round headlight mounts and a master cylinder repositioni

    Deborah newbie here.

Mine is in the process, so have not yet got it all together. But I got a junction from another bike that was laying around at school and made a little bracket to hold the new junction at the same location the other was mounted on. (a guy at school made it for me)

I got a 1/2" handle mounted master from chacal. I got an old stainless line from school and will connect that to the new junction with a double union bolt.

I got different bars though. Now am having to order new cables, to fit the bars I got.

The handlebar mounted master cylinder does not work very well over that plastic and the bars without the plastic don't look so great.

We removed the handle from the throttle control and have the brake lever from the master cylinder lined up to work. Its not the best, but it will work.

This weekend, I'm going to see if I can get another throttle control switch from a salvage yard that may work a little better.

I saw some pics of some other guys on this site that have used master off of other bikes and mounted another union at another location.

    Hope this helps.

I'll let you know what the outcome is. We should be completed with in within the next couple of weeks.

    Deborah

I went and got a set of mounting brackets that come straight off the forks so no need to move anything.
