Rubber insert?

    So my manual says do not forget this rubber peice and I would like to know how important it is because I don't have one, I'm assuming the po lost it but who knows.

    It's pretty important. That insert allows the middle drive bevel gears to be bathed in oil, and they need to be bathed in oil. I think that you do really need to get one.

    Fairly often I find small parts like that in leftover parts lots, but it takes a fair amont of looking at photos to spot what you need.
    Chacal might have some.

    Another question, if I can't find one could I block it off some how without the rubber piece like make something out of sheet metal or just block it off

    I think you could make an insert from RTV or a formable rubber like Versimold.
    What I'd do is make the insert in wood, then make a plaster mould and use that to cast the part.

    There is an NOS one on E-bay right now, but for about 10 times the original price.

    some of the 750's have a half circle in the valve cover gasket. It's been a while since i looked in there but i'm thinking they're close. Maybe close enough to razor blade something that fits

    HCP21657 Aftermarket middle gear cavity-to-shifter case cavity rubber GROMMET, fits into the recess on the crankcase on the southwest corner of the middle gear cavity (northeast corner of the shifter cover cavity) in the crankcase. For all XJ650, XJ700 non-X, XJ750 non-X, and all XJ900RK, RL, N/FN, F, and S/SH engines.
