    I just purchased a 82 750 maxim I rode it home (not real far) but the thing is you have keed the choke about half way or it will die. I am new to this and just wanting to learn thanks for your advice.

    You have dirty carbs, they will need to come off and cleaned/rebuilt.

    You will need to get a manual for your bike, it will show you how to do carb service. Allong with the carbs you will need to check:
    valve adjustment
    rebuild both front and rear brakes
    service clutch
    inspect front and rear wheel bearings
    and more, go through the manual and do all the regular maintenance items listed.

    Remember this bike is 30 years old. Most of them suffer from neglect. All those items must be in known working condition......Your life may depend on them.
