Help, I was riding to work this morning on my XJ750 Seca, everything was fine when all of a sudden it bogged down on me. After that point I got good response on the throttle until after half throttle and nothing from that point on. It runs great until half throttle. Once I got to work I noticed the strong smell of unburnt gas, could not find any leaks and I had another guy pull up to me at a red light (he was on a bike as well) and said he noticed light smoke coming out of it. It starts great just smells bad, only has half throttle and went through probably a gallon and 1/2 of gas in like 20 miles?

Have you taken out your plugs?

I would pop the oil fill plug off and smell for gasoline. Theres a good chance if its not leaking somewhere that it was dumped into the crank.

    Spark good on all 4?

you know that happened to me last year but I never started it and my mechanic caught it before I tried to fire it up. I will check that in the morning. Good thought, thanks. It makes sense cause I actually watched the gas gauge go down before my eyes while riding it.

There is still the issue as to why its doing that. If you take the plugs out, and look for a fouled one, it might give you an idea of where to start. Same for good spark.

was not full of gas. Drained the oil and put new filter, and 2 1/2 qts of oil. Still the same.

Well that's good. Keep an eye on that level; if suddenly one morning you have significantly more oil than the day before, don't run the motor. The sight glass is your new best friend, and will be for as long as you own your XJ.

You have a sticking or stuck float. Messing with the mixture screws won't fix it.

In my answer to your other post, I explained all of the things you need to do. http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=36768.html

Those answers apply here as well.

Have at it. You'll need a service manual.
