Issue I'm having the bike was pretty hard to warm up. Even when warm and revving the engine it still did climbed rpm pretty slowly. Out on the road it seemed sluggish. Could it be that I over oiled my air filter and its not getting enough air? Could be its still just cleaning itself out from the wreck?

If your air filter got oil saturated, replace it. It won't "clean itself out."

You'll never be able to clean it. Replace it.

If I read correctly he has a K&N filter, which can be cleaned of excess oil.

    It's a UNI foam filter.

I tried the clubmans. Not good tank clearance I'm gonna try to reposition them.

Also after like 10 minutes I am seriously sore. Also it feels like you get less control with them. Less leverage maybe? It feels like evey inch of brake pressure is forced onto your wrists and back. I love the look so I'm gonna try and readjust them. To make better clearance and angle. Looks like I may be headed back to stock bars.

Do yourself a huge favor. Get Eurostyle bars. Unless your 5'4" or 6'7" they will work. The best thing about their positioning is that you can roll them forward or back a few inches in the clamps to create a multitude of functional positions. Plus I get 0 fatigue, no clearance issues, no MC issues, and I can whip my bike around more than the tires can take.

Don't go back to stock unless you're just in love with it. The stock bars are 'ok' if all you do is sit back and cruise like an old dude, but if you like to ride and want to do both-that is sit back and cruise and sometimes lean forward and disappear, then Euro is the way to go.

The only issue I had was brake lines (the old rubber ones were fine) when I put on SS lines, I had to have the top line custom made. My clutch cable is rerouted so it works but it is a tad long for these bars. I plan on getting the 750seca cable(? think that's the one right bigFitz) later which is shorter.

If you want a better picture of them than the ones I have on here just say and I will snap one for you. You can also check out bigFitz's pics he is using the same bar on his 550.

As far as running rough, check inside your airbox to make sure it's clean, and did you replace your plugs?

I would like to make sure I get the right kind could you post a link? With my ss lines will it matter if there is a little bit of slack? I don't see why it would....

I'll check the air box. And I didn't change the plugs.

The increased pull back of the stock bars do give you a lot more leverage. It's the first thing I noticed when I changed bars. I've since gotten used to it, but it's definitely there.

How about just pictures instead. I think these will give you an idea

View from the top...me peg standing and holding the camera above my head - yea my levers need refinishing and the ignition plastic too. :)

Direct from the side..shows the rise well, the new fairing, and the leaf pile I need to tackle.

If you notice the hand grips are sitting at about a 35 degree angle, I have an XV (virago) with stock bars that are basically the same as the XJ stock bars-To me the leverage is fine and even makes the Euro bend more forgiving, the rise is better, when you brake the force mostly passes through your hands and wrists and is absorbed by your arms (increasing control in emergency situations). On the stock bars your hands do much more work during stoping. So do you want to milk cows or punch the air?? 8)

SS Lines are really quite set in their ways. Slack isn't as much of an issue as 'clocking' is, but slack can affect the clocking. The way the SS line approaches the MC is critical as it's not going to twist. If you do have issues you can get Chacal to customize your line (basically just take several measurements or mock ups and make sure he gets the right specs to custom make you one), or you could do what I did which was go to a local shop that specializes in airplane hydraulics, which means they can make anything and have them custom make you a line on the spot.

I just ordered a similar tinted windscreen/fairing for mine! I will definitely look for a set of them! Looks nice. And man your bike is clean. I'm gonna try and find a set and order them tonight. Do you remember where you got them? Ill check jpcycles.

Yea it's not an expensive 1/4 fairing, and the bike is a Maxim not exactly a cafe style, although I wouldn't mind hybridizing it with a different tank and seat at some point, but it does match the OE paint and it does the trick I bought it for.

I have to commute on a busy freeway and everyone goes 75-80mph, so the wind buffeting is pretty intense. With the fairing I get much less wind on my shoulders, if lean in just a bit the wind clears my helmet, and if I lay down all the way I can still see out the smoked screen and it is very calm no wind at all-so it's nice. Actually I think it looks good on the Max, and people definitely check it out! I think they are trying to figure out just what kind of bike it is. It was a bit tricky getting it just right, thinking about doing a short write up on the process to help future installs like this AM one.

The bars I sourced locally from a custom bike shop, they were listed as Euro bend bars and ran $30.00. They are 29.5" wide, 5" center, 4" rise, and 6.5" pullback. Most of the 'online euro' bars seem to have different specs so maybe they were listed wrong. The closest ones I have seen to what I have are these Daytona T style:

These look interesting (road medium closest) but the measurements are a little different, little less pullback, length, and rise. But the tech sounds good.

This Fairing has two holes in each side... NO idea how to mount it. I assumed it connected to the headlight bracket somehow?

Thanks for your help mercury man!

So back to my running rough I foud two things... two of my headers are loose. It looks like I didn't tighten the flange bolts down enough. I am missing two and I can hear and feel exhuast coming out of the sides from them not being held in. The other thing is when I pulled my air box there was some oil in the bottom but not very much. Should I just reclean the filter and try again?
