Hey everybody! Proud owner of a 1985 Yamaha Maxim xj700, I have had her about four years now and love every chance to take her out and chase the clouds. I have ran into one issue and that is saddle bags and support brackets or (a retainer i believe was the term). I stumbled on this site a few weeks ago and saw somebody had said what they did and that they had gotten saddlebags. But they did not say where they got ,whether it was from a store in their town or what online website it was. I need help trying to find out where i can bag, I would prefer the throwover ones. I need your help, i have been looking since I got the bike with no success and many long pauses on the phone when i inquire or a giggle from some of them as well. Please let me know if you are able to help thanks
    Jennifer

finding something listed for a 30 year old bike would be hard as no one is looking for that market share.
some throw overs go under the seat most have ties to lash then to side of bike.

quote from this ad which talks about brackets they sell
These can be used by themselves with no additional hardware, or the center yoke could be removed to mount to saddlebag brackets such as Easy Brackets (which we have available in our eBay store).

they have a sizing guide link on the ad as well.
with the yoke you need no brackets

Please take a look at this sizing guide that shows where to measure your bike to make sure the bag fits correctly.

I remember an XJ750X owner who fabricate his own rack by bending carefully a car brake fluid pipe, I'll try to trace that back.
