WEll, i finally did it, i got another motorcycle. Heres the Skinny: 1981 cb 750 custom. 12k miles, been sitting for 3-4 years in a covered shed, EVERYTHING is there (phew), including the odd sissy bar you'll see in the picture :D . It desnt run, yet, the battery is dead, so im going to charge it over night and see what this 5+ yr old battery can do, if nothing ill pull the one off my xj and try. I will probably take the carbs to my local honda dealer and have them clean them, as well as possibly replace the font seal.
I paid 350 for it, i think its worth that, even if it doesnt run, but i can lose much money on it. Do you think i paid too much?

I also found some interesting things on this, a motorcycle security system that is completely disabled, and shot, and some rat poisen. have yet to find a way to get into the airbox to look at it.
Im also mad that the mufflers on this are not separable from the headers, its one big piece, or am i wrong?

Heres the bike when i got it home, after it tipped over in my s10 8O didnt hurt it. Note the gay sissy bar.

    Jealous of my clean tank?

Heres the bike after i got dont with it today:

Also, will i be hurting the structural integrity of the fram if i cut where i put the pencil mark?

the frame should be fine if you cut it there.

is the sissy bar made from solid stock? that looks really heavy!

WUSS, good job they don't still have the draft, or you would probably dodge that as well!

Remove those chrome airbox side covers, loosen the airbox to carb clamps and use a ratchet strap to pull the airbox towards the rear wheel after your sure you have all the mounting hardware and hoses off of it. This will give you enough room to remove the carbs and slide them out.

Then your mission should be :p to carefully dis-assemble and clean those carbs yourself! Make sure and have the right tools, good screwdrivers, 6pt wrenches/sockets. Take your time and do one carb at a time then re-assemble it and move to the next carb. You dont have to take the rack apart. Those are easy carbs to clean, no diaphrams. Dont soak the whole carb, just the float bowl. I believe it has a rubber tip on the float valve. Make sure you have all rubber parts out before you go shooting carb cleaner in it!

And a forum for it here  http://www.cb750c.com/

yeah, do it yourself, a reputable Honda shop will charge at least $100 to do a 4 carb rack. Those are simple. And I wouldn't cut the frame until you have a positively definite idea of the look you want AND know that you can accomplish. That really is a nice DOHC Honda and could be a gorgeous example. Think twice about hacking it. You could easily triple your money on it when you get it running and cleaned up!

Re: Schooter's CB 750 "Tractor" Build! (pic heavy)

i was thinking that, its nice, with some water and chrome polish, i could get some money out of it, but the paint is pure poop, flakes and so on, it look like a home paint job, theres spatter marks all over it.

Re: Schooter's CB 750 "Tractor" Build! (pic heavy)

You'd be lucky to get it in the shop to begin with and it'll probably cost ya around $250-400 for the carb job!

Sounds like a discount for a paint job.
It's only a tank and 2 side covers... Either sell it like it is or have some practice painting on it!

I agree. It's way too complete of an example to start hacking up. Clean it up nice and triple your money in the spring easy. Or get it painted properly and make a $grand.

Re: Schooter's CB 750 "Tractor" Build! (pic heavy)

ya, my dad wont let me paint it like a john deere, i thought he would be stoked, but i plan on painting the engine black, or shine it up somehow, and paint it exactly like cheesey's bike.

I put o nthe gas tank, side covers, and the xj700 seat, and i love how it looks! except for that ugly bar

I pulle dthe spark plugs, and it crushed my heart, i think 2 were almost brand new, maybe the third, but they were white as snow! one was blacker than black.... so i got some playing to do.
I bought a clymer manual, so we'll see whats going to happen

Re: Schooter's CB 750 "Tractor" Build! (pic heavy)

nah, the honda dealer is a small shop, they're family friends, sorta, i asked how much it would be to clean the carbs, and if i brought them in, 100 bucks, not including parts, or if i bring in the bike its 55 a carb. he said its about 30 bucks a carb for a rebuild kit. i dont have the money to do the rebuild kit, but i may use my manual and my dad and slowly tear into them, or get a family friend to help that is a mechanical wiz

That airbox is just nasty. Better put on a hazmat suit to clean it or expect to sire children with six heads.

ya, i was getting pretty nautious, how should i pull the carbs off? loosen all 8 clamps ( one for engine part of boot and 1 for carb boot) and yank? or is there a method to the madness

no method, just remove throttle and choke cables, loosen the intake clamps and sit ON the bike grab each end of the rack and yank up and away...heat the intakes with a hair dryer first to soften the rubber. I wouldn't buy clubmans until you try flipping the stock bars upside down. either way you are gonna need to shorten the cables or buy new ones. You should really consider just painting and selling as it sits though. I can guarantee it will bring you much more $$$

well, i found a set of carbs on ebay, that say they work, and if i were to bid and win, i think it would cost me about 50 bucks shipped, i think i will save money doing that.. and thanks for the tips, ill try that tommorrow after i weigh in my cattle for the fair. Ya i was going to put the clubmans upside down, so its like a raised drag bar, or, depending on how much jc whitney or what ever is shipped to my door i will get straight up drags, i knwo they will clear my tank without a riser.
i could probably paint it and sell it for more, but i dont really want to. I want t osell my maxim, ride this, and sell it if i ever need money for collage, cuz i imagine it will sell fast cuz these bike or worth some cash

First thing- - compression test- - why is 1 plug black??

If you don't hack the frame or ruin the stock parts, you can always put it back together stock when you're done playing with it. Make a duffle bag rack, or a smooth tail piece to hide the frame.

And I bet the insides of your carbs look just like these. . . but smaller.
