Thank you for the pic. I was told if it didn’t have one that I can put one in there but not sure if needed. Would you know by chance where the 2 thin shims go.

I recall reading (probably in the XJ4Ever parts catalog) that the early 650s had a seal there, but at some point they stopped using it. My XJ650J did not have that seal.

Okay thank you. Weird some did and some didn’t even though there is a spot for one. Gonna put it back together and roll with it.

Zero C-clips. There are several half-round locating shims, and honestly I don't understand why you didn't take photos during disassembly. I understand that things happen, so I'm just asking as a way of informing others who will read this in the future. I haven't torn into the bottom end of a XJ in a decade, so I'll consult the manual and get back to you tomorrow. My recollection is that there are locating shims for every bearing, and that they are all alike, but I want to be sure before you commit to that advice.

As k-moe mentioned they are locating shims. Only one per bearing. During reassembly try to have them turned a bit so they contact both case halves.

Okay thank you. Would have took pics but camera is broken. Have a manual but didn’t go into detail much on those.
