This has been an issue since I rebuilt the bike from boxes of bits several years ago.
The seat doesn't sit neatly against the tail fairing/cowl - one of my brother's fat farmers fingers can get in the gap. Also it will close on the front lock by will not engage the rear latch. Hmm..

I have another seat on a spares mule which I removed to see if that made a difference and lo the bases are completely different (even though the latches and hinges line up the same).

Just recently I had to relocate one of the fairing mount tabs as it did not line up with the tail fairing mount hole. Someone had re-welded it (in the wrong place) before with even less skill than I possess so it may have been subject to a fall in the past. xj550_seat_issue_pic1.jpg xj550_seat_issue_pic2.jpg xj550_seat_issue_pic1.jpg xj550_seat_issue_pic2.jpg

the seat from the spares mule is on the left in the comparison pic. The one on the right is embossed with 4G0

OK, different approach. Can anyone tell me what the normal gap is between the top of the rear light and teh tail piece? Mind is a close fit , maybe too close?
