i was wondering what the seat height is. i can't find anything on the normal xj spec sites i know of.

just wondering so i can compare it with similar bikes to find one for my fiance, who isn't so tall. :)

okay looked around the internet and found this:
Seat height 30.5 in (775 mm)

read through the manual and appears i had missed (on the 7th page, oh the embarrassment!): seat height xj650G: 750mm 29.5 in.

so i guess there it is, if anyone else needs it lol

These seats can be un-stapled, shaved with a bread knife, then re-stapled, re-using the old cover.

i would but i don't have a heavy duty staple gun to get through that hard plastic that the seat base is made of. and if i f- it up then i'm not sure where i can find a replacement in as good shape as mine.

Seats for 650 Maxims seem fairly easy to come by - you could get one that needs recovered, modify it for your fiance (trial and error shaving with a hand-held grinding wheel and gluing closed-cell garden kneeling pads works best) and take it to an upholstery shop that works with boats/marine powersports.

hmm i'll take a look into it, thanks!

i though about maybe putting a bobber style seat on it, but it might look silly on the back end seeing as how i don't have the know-how to make it look good.

Get a heavy duty staple gun from Home Repo for $10

Don't be afraid to cut up a 30 year old bike ( but be gentle).
