Seat mounting???

I recently became the proud owner of an 82 650 maxim. PO had a bungee cord across the back of the seat to hold it down. My question is, How does the seat affix to the lock on the side? Pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I would suggest you wander over to the Yamaha web site and look up the parts break down for your bike. The exploded view ought to give you some idea of what you are dealing with.

 

if you take your seat off you will see on the right side o bike a helmet lock. you put your key in there and turn it you will see a little round tab pop out, make sure it is in. If you look at the bottom of your seat you will see a lever with a hole in it. You put your seat on and make sure the lever is pushed up. turn the key so the tab pops out and locks the lever in place. I couldn't figure it out at first either.
