I have an '86 Maxim X with a seat that's in excellent condition except for one small crack about an inch long. Is there something I can use to seal it so it doesn't get worse? Just trying to be proactive.

You may be able to take the seat cover off and put an iron-on patch on the underside.

I'm not sure what store to refer you to, as I live in Canada. But at Canadian Tire (here), perhaps (Lowes/Walmart) equivelent there. You can purchase a vinyl repair kit in the automotive department. Generally they come in numerous colours. I've never used them, so can't vouch for them, but it may be worth a try, as they are relatively cheap.

Actually.... After a quick google search, this is the stuff I was refering to...

If you google the search words "vinyl repair kit", you may find a product more readily available to you.

Thanks for the help. I found another product on line that looks very similar only uses a heating tool. I'll let you know how it goes.

I used GOOP to repair a seat in the past. I used it like an iron-on patch from the backside of the seat leather. I used a scrap piece of seat material (found at fabric stores) and glued it on the backside of the seat and put a large book with heavy weights on it and let it sit over night. Then I installed the leather back on the seat and it worked great!! Do a google search on Goop and you'll find their products. I've been using this stuff for 15 years with great results. I should be a spokesman for the company as much as I use it!! >PD<

I've used TARP tape for a couple of rips... so far so good. Designed to repair rips in tarps or to join them together...supposedly weatherproof.
Use heat after applying to cure the bond.... $6 for a roll (30ft I think)
