Hi all - does anyone have a rear wheel suitable for a 1980 XJ650? It needs to be free of scratches as it's going on a bike that's being fully restored. I'm not worried about surface corrosion or condition of paint as I can refinish the surface. I believe the Seca & Maxim wheels are not interchangeable, is that right? Will need to be shipped to New Zealand.

Same wheel as the Xj750R and shipping will be more than the wheel. Maxim wheel fits if you use the brake parts as well.

Thanks, I'll check the wheel dimensions as there are a heap of Maxim wheel on EBay. Unfortunately high shipping costs are unavoidable in NZ.

You should be able to find a wheel there or in Australia

If you're restoring you'll want the original type wheel no?

Yes the oem wheel would be preferable to a maxim wheel. But the rear wheel on both xj650r and Xj750r are the same part number. There is a fellow in Nelson New Zealand that is a 650 owner that I have sent parts to that may have and extra wheel.

That's right, I want the standard 18x2.15 Seca wheel. I just realised the Maxim wheel is not the same size.

I have found a wheel for you and is cheap enough but need your address to figure out the shipping cost. From Canada or USA as I ship from both locations

I took the wheel to a specialist repairer yesterday, he thinks they can fix the damage so I'll give that a go first, will take around 2 weeks. I'll let you know as soon as that's done.
    Thanks

My wheels have scratches & gouges on the rims, was picking up some chrome plating & the electroplaters said they have a machine that can fix that. It apparently scans the wheel then skims the top layer off. I'm not convinced but will give it a go. Its a bit of a gamble as the reconditioning will cost around $160.00NZD
If that doesn't work I'll be in contact about the replacement wheel.

Just got the wheels back, they look like new. Wasn't cheap - $450NZD for the two wheels but you get what you pay for. About to mask them and repaint the internal bits with satin black.
In hindsight I should have painted the entire wheel black and then done the skimming which would have left a perfect clean edge with no masking - but it's too late for that now
