I'm new to the forum and to my '82 XJ750. The bike runs but won't idle. Throttles up high and comes down slow. This is my first of what I think will be many posts and questions:

    1. Is it advisable to ever move the pilot screws? My Haynes owner's manual says it should never be done but figure that I'm 'man enough' to take it on.

    2. Am I right to think that I would use a color tune to help me set the pilot screws?

    Thanks?

Most of us do. The manuals have to say no because the EPA forces the factory to set them for minimal emissions.

If the caps are gone someone else already did.

If the carburetors need cleaning the screws need to be removed to do it properly.

    Colortune is great!

Throttles up high and comes down slow sounds more like a sync problem. Its not hard to do but you will need some special tools. You can make these however. There are a few posts on the home made tools.
