just an fyi to some of those who might come across the same issue. I had my maxim x running and great. I did some work to her and (turnsignal relay went out) she wouldn't start, no spark. I was dumbfounded to stay the least. I gave her a new wiring harness, coils, cdi, you name it...you know what it was??? the stinkin side stand relay went bad on me...just food for thought.

Not talkin down at you, but that's why people need to learn how to use a multimeter and test things, instead of using the shotgun approach. (Firing parts at it until it works again). You know how many perfectly good alternators and master cylinders are replaced every year because "It won't start, must be the alternator" or "It won't stop, must be the master cylinder"?

Glad you found the problem, but a $10 multimeter and some patience could've saved you hundreds of dollars in parts.

In a way ... we're lucky that the parts used to make these bikes last so long. But, here we are. 20 - 25-years old and having to replace a few parts.

Got to hand it to Yamaha. They did a good job with the parts they stuck-on the originals for them to last all those years and still be going strong in many cases.

I had a situation where my bike would sputter and nearly stall because of this damn switch. It took me a couple weeks to find it cause it would only seem to happen once a week.

I'll agree with Rick on the quality of Yamaha engineering and parts. The sad part is that since there hasn't been a large call for parts for our bikes, support for them is now gone! Two-edged sword.

Then it could've saved you a lot of time changing out all those good parts ;)
