So i dont know if im going to do this yet or not, but has anyone fabbed a sidecar before? I was wondering if the wheel on it needed to have a brake set up. Also i wanted to know the key parts of it, like where to mount it, how it should be mounted, etc. If it looks easy enough i might start a build thread for it after my xj is done :)

I had seen an xj maxim that had a side car on it. Some one in the Tampa area had it up for sale on craigslist. It didn't look custom... I mean It almost looked as thought the guy had bought it and it bolted right on. I know nothing about them but you might be able to just buy one that fits our bikes. This guy had a lot of xjs. So I do not know if there is a company that builds them or if you have to build one your self but It was be awesome either way.

Sidecar has to have a brake, you can buy the couplins to fix to the frame.
Why not just buy a car?

I suppose i could buy one. But that takes the fun out of making it customized. haha It was just an idea that popped into my head and i ran with it. Ill look around and see if its cheaper to buy or build.

I wish I had a sidecar to toss the kids in as well. If I could have one in the sidecar and one on the back I'd be set :D

I'm looking for a sidecar as well. More just for fun as I'm sure the Wifey won't let me put the kids in the sidecar (or anywhere else on the bike for that matter), lol. But I think it would be fun to take them on the road in a couple years and not worry about them falling off the back.

And having them in an actual car takes all the fun out of it.

Sidecars are fun to dream about but a real PITA to handle around town.

This is a small pic of my ride with the sidecar attached. It has a disc brake that works from a quick disconnect just in front of the rear brake ABS unit. Stops plenty quick. In town it has to be muscled around corners and requires a lot of arm strength to get it to go where you want it to go. On the highway it's easy sailing as it has a hydraulic system that adjusts the camber on the sidecar suspension. It tracks perfectly straight hands free.

Mine is a Hannigan 2+2 model and is ridiculously expensive. With the 2 tone paint job, the disc brake option, the interior fan, the adjustable camber and the installation cost the total runs right at $10,000. I consider myself really lucky to have found one already matched and attached to my 7800 mile LT. If I subtract the value of the bike from what I paid for both pieces I got the sidecar for about $3,000. Which is a pretty good price.

BTW it takes about 10 minutes to attach or remove the sidecar from the bike. Four bolts, the electrical connection and the brake quick connect.
