Does anyone know about clutch mods on a 1100. I bought this bike with an slipping clutch,(only has 12900 on the odometer) Bought new clutch plates off of e-bay from Cycle Parts Direct. They worked great. I adjusted the cable play twice to make sure the cable was not too tight. I cleaned the carbs, Set my valves and man this thing is fast. So I was riding along and started to open the throttle in 3rd gear and It started slipping I let off and checked the cable for end play and it looks good. Is there a better set of clutch springs out there I should install over stock or Could I have missed something when I installed the plates. I followed the service manual on how the plates go in there. The metal plates that go between looked good and were not discolored. Any Info would help.
    Thanks

You just need new springs and possibly switch to a different kind of oil. Some people say not to use car oil but that's what I use and never had a problem with slipping. It could be worse, I've replaced the clutch in my 1100 several times but it's because of sticking, it doesn't slip but it won't release to shift from neutral into first.

Welcome MN-Maxims ! Boy, you got a pile of 'em!

Not saying this is it, but you do know about the "friction modifiers - -energy efficient oil" thing, right? Makes clutches slip?

you will get mixed opinions on this, and if you do it you need to check your clearances, but you can shim the stock springs with washers. i have done it to get one more race out of a clutch, and it works great and costs almost nothing.

I'm currently useing Castrol GTX 10/40 Oil. I was thinking about putting in some Lucas oil stabilizer but I thought that the clutch wouldn't like that so much. I was wondering who might have some aftermarket springs.
I could try shiming them up with washers, How much room or should I be concerned about binding it up if I shim too much.

    THANKS

I ordered mine from barnett, but had to order the whole package, fibers, plates, and springs, because they have a high min order amount. was going to replace fibers and springs anyway. But it's been pretty good. I'd suggest going with a different company though, cuz i thought their cust service was crap.

really?! barrnett is the BEST in my opinion, although i havent had to talk to them so i wouldnt know about customer service.

MN- i dont know about these bikes, but on the race quads i shim springs on it is possible to make things too tight, so installed clearances do need to be checked, and make sure when you pull the clutch in it wont bottom out the spring.

some people say that doing this makes the springs bind, wich is plausible however i havent felt any issues the few times i have done it.

Installed new Sprins and clutch lever so hard to pull I think the cable won't last too long. I installed VERSAH sk201 Springs. Not sure what I should do now. Thanks

    Update

Took old set of springs to cylinder head service shop to measure spring pressure at installed height. 225mm The old springs averaged 62 lbs the new ones measured 100 lbs. Also the new springs are almost coil binding. So I'm still looking for a set of clutch springs. Was trying a way to add shims under the stock springs but I could not do it with off the shelf washers.
    Thanks

not sure of spring size on your bike,so this may or may not work,I have used sparkplug washers before,I have also used copper sealing washers, take a spring with you to auto parts or hardware store and match up a set of copper washers.. they will work even though they are soft
