Solo seat Suggestions.

I am getting ready to take of my stock seat and install a solo seat on my 1981 XJ 550. Do you have any suggestions for me? I am going to take off the rear fender and cut off the extra frame, lower the shocks and put on the seat. I know that someone has done this before any help would be appreciated. Thanks

 

Apologize for not being able to point you right at the post you need ! There are a number of members that have done some nice solo seats. Several have done solo looking seats that will do for a passenger. Go back through the "builds", you might find what you're looking for. Probably learn a thing or three too :wink: ...

Well what i would do since your 550 has a chain, my first plan of attack wouls be to stretch it out as a hardtail with a nice spring seat of your choise. Yeah my 650 has a shaft drive and would be hard to stretch.

Yeah i like to stretch my legs out because im not the shortest guy on the planet, so im going the route of drop shocks, and a solo seat that i made out of the double bucket seat that came on my bike.

But if mine had the chain like yours, it would be getting the hardtail treatment. Good Luck
