I was running some errands yesterday and my '81 xj750r died on me. I was coming to a stop at a light, the engine shut off, and the ATARI went lights-out. No response from anything after that. The battery is still charged, and I tried a jump anyway but nothing even lights up. No blown fuses as far as I could tell.

I'm taking a voltmeter back over there this afternoon to see if I can find what's wrong. Any ideas where I should start?

These fuse boxes are notorious. Suggest thorough examination. Main battery connections clean and tight?

fusebox probably has a bad clip. Otherwise, I'd say one of the ignition relays is gone.

I had the same exact problem with my 900rk two years ago.....left me stranded in the middle of Ilion Gorge. Fortunately, it's all down hill, so I turned around and coasted for two miles to a friends house. I trucked it home, never could isolate the cause. The next day after playing around, a heard a 'click'. touched the button and it started right up. Never did it again.....never did pin down the cause, but I think it was one of the two things I mentioned.

PLEASE let me know if YOU find anything.

Well I know it's not the fusebox because it's not there...someone wired most of them straight together with a couple having inline fuses. Suppose I'll check the ignition relays first. What would be the easiest way to check them?

Figured it out. A solder in the ignition switch had fallen apart - easy fix!
