I'm thinking about making a bolt on rear axle to convert a maxim into a trike. I'm thinking of doing it in such a way that conversion back to two wheels would only take an hour or two. So far, logistically I'll need to set up a smallish axle, probably from a VW bug, with a slight left side pumpkin offset, another master cylinder to run rear brakes and a way to tie the rear brake to the brake light.

I've even thought about setting up something similar to the neckas an attachment point to the new "Swingarm" so that the bike can still lean a bit for curves.
Anyone done anything similar or have some other ideas for what would make this kind of mod slick?

It sounds like it would be possible to do, no doubt. The rear axle should be a no brainer. Just getting the shaft to fit onto the axle U-joint would be a small task for a machine shop. The brakes would work with a rear brake resevior from another bike with a rear disc brake setup of some kind.
Now...making it so you can remove it and go back to two wheels? Priceless!

For attachment/ detachment I was thinking of shopping around for a spare swingarm and welding some square tubing on it to attach it to the axle. I haven't looked into how easily the swingarm comes off yet but that seems to be the best option to make it swappable. A rear Master cylinder would probably mount to one of the swing arm extensions I think, then a cable that is long enough to hook to the stock pivot lever. It really doesn't even sound that difficult. The fabrication seems to be the biggest part and worst case I have a chopper shop in walking distance to my house. Well, If I do well with this mod I might look into making a rear like this:http://www.mysterydesigns.com/. Getting the lean on a trike sounds cool.
