Yea, I started the bike Sat night, and it ran for a few, then stalled(fairly normal, as I need to rejet it). I went to restart it, heard a pop, then all went dead. Turned it off/on, and dead. Tried a few times, got the comp to come up once, but then dead again.

When I checked voltage with my meter, I get 12.67 at the batt, but as soon as I turn the key to ON, it drains everything and I get millivolts. So... wtf can do this to the bike? Kill swtich? Something else? The pop I heard, sounded like a spark/electrical pop, and seemed to come from the battery area, but I don't know for sure.

Yikes! You need to chase the voltage down. Have a look at the fuse block. You should see battery voltage on the other side of the main fuse. I'd look at the alternator brushes to see if anything got shorted in there. I'd check on the other side of the solenoid (starter side). Do you get anything there? Wow, there is a list of things to sift through. Start at the top and work your way down (through the electrical system that is).

I did the the following right away:

    1) Checked battery, and it was good. Turned key to ON, and battery drained.
    2) Checked fuse block, and 12V was present on both sides of the main fuse. Turned key ON, and 12V was gone on both sides.
    3) Pulled main fuse, checked 12V and it was good(obviously only on one side). Turned key ON, and 12V was STILL good.

So the problem is somewhere after the main fuse, and that's as far as I got for narrowing it down.

Go check in the XJ FAQ Suggestions forum.. There are some really good walk throughs there. You could start with Gamaru's Start circuit walk through. I may help you with components and paths to check first.

So, I was just out in the garage to take a look at it. I turned the key to ON, and everything was back to normal. Then, as soon as I hit the START button, I saw a spark from the battery area. Glad I had the garage door down, because that made it dark enough to clearly see this spark. I'm guessing it's the starter solenoid.

Sounds like a poor connection somewhere, probably right at the battery.
