I almost have the bike on the road after putting it back together from the previous owner. Last week I had the carbs cleaned and put back on. Unfortunately the air boots had shrunk considerably and would not seat and seal properly. I bought new boots and put them in and tried to start it up. It will start up and as long as keep hittin the throttle it will run but when it falls to an idle it starts to sputter and dies. As long as I keep kicking it up to around 2000 rpm I'm good. I backed off the main idle screw and its better - consistently starts but always dies. I would guess that I need to tune my carbs. This is my first bike and I'm learning as I go but I really don't know what I'm doing on carbs and I don't have the YICS tool (82 XJ650) Since I finally got it plated, insured and got my license I want to RIDE and would hate to mess up the timing so bad I can't even get it out on the road.

Is there anyone close to the Mckinney area (north of Dallas) who could give me a hand with this??? Cold beer and good food in it for anyone who can...and whatever else you want to get it running smooth :D Just PM me if ya can.

    Thanks

I can take it to anyone who could help out too. Just let me know where. I got a decent little shop at the house.

Sounds like the Idle circuit in the carbs need to be re-cleaned.
