The tank from my parts bike looks decent inside, from what I can tell with a full tank of fresh gas. I plan to paint it, and let it sit empty for a few weeks or months before I use it. Assuming I don't see rust when I drain it, how do I store it to keep rust from forming while I store it? If I find a spot or two, should I line it, or should I line it regardless of what I find as a preventative?

I would only line a tank that had massive amounts of "cancer" that would continue to plug a filter, not a light amount of rust.

Drain the tank by siphoning out a corner, then add a pint of fresh motor oil, turn the tank in every possible direction. Drain later. A few OZ of residual oil into 4 gallons won't hurt, but if you're concerned, flush it and save the gas for your weedwhacker.
