Specialty tool for front forks

    Hey I was wondering because I can't find it on the forums does anyone have a write up on hoe to build this tool? I have an 82 xj650j maxim I need to replace my fork seals and realized you need that tool to do it. Thanks for the help

    are you talking about the damper rod holding tool. If so a spark plug socket with the 19 mm end cast on it put backwards onto a bunch of extensions works or double nut the end of a piece of threaded rod with 19 mm nuts.

    its a pretty easy fabrication to make something for retaining the bottom portion inside the tubes. I took a bolt with similar size and turned it upside down with a nut that fit in a socket. held the nut with the socket which held to bolt and that held the bottom portion of tube inside front fork. here's other ideas shared on here that I saved from it too

    I just welded a bolt with a 19mm head into a narrow pipe, welded a T onto the other end ,and "Voila " , a copy of the factory tool. Cheers ,Murray

    A Rod with a 19mm Bolt welded to one end and a 22mm Bolt on the other ... and you have a "One Tool -- Fits All" Fork Tool.
