Another XJ noob question for yas - can the speedo and tach be "easily" and "painlessly" disassebled in order to clean the glass? I have an XS650 which I've tried doing the same for before and it was neither "easy" nor "painless".

    Thank you!

Yes, the cover is held on by a bunch of screws. 4 hold the back chrome cover on, remove them to remove the cover. then there are some small screws that hold the speedo and tach in place, and two longer ones that hold the indicator light unit in place. Once those are all off, the gauges can be removed from the face.....there is a sticky-ish gasket around each of the gauges, so gently pull/wiggle to loosen them. Otherwise, the face will basically fall right off.

What with all those horses in the stable, no XS? I must say though - I love my XS650 (mostly because it was my grandfathers who I loved dearly and has passed) - she's extremely rough around the edges - I revived her after sitting on flat tires in his garage for over 13 years.

However, now that we got this 82 XJ550 I no longer like my XS nearly as much (although I will never get rid of it due to my emotional tie to it).

There's an xs400rj in the list.............what is NOT in the list is the xs400special that just went to NJ to another listmember. Nor are the two xs750 special triples that are under a cover.......(Sorry, Ecologito--yup, there's some other bikes here, too, that I didn't tell you about. LOL)

Damn Dave - where the heck to you keep all those bikes? I take it you are either not married or your ol' lady rides too? I only have 2 bikes in the garage at the moment and my ol' lady is already bitchin (sorry honey, priorities and all!).

This place is one of my favorites when Glass or weathered Plastic needs replacing in the Cluster.
They offer New Glass Lenses: Flat or Domed.

Also: Watch Crystals for Master Level Window.
