Wondering if the little speedo drive units can be dismantled and cleaned. The grease inside is getting pretty thick and has some crud mixed in. Anyone ever taken one apart and regreased it?

There is a snap ring (it has no eyelets; it looks just like a plain length of wire) on the inboard side of the unit. Pry it off and you can disassemble, clean, and regrease it.

Make sure you take note of the orientation of the special washers as they come out........it's not intuitive when you go to put humpty-dumpty back together again!
