    Hey all,

Yeah, it's me...again. The one who said I can feel the revs at 14mph. I took my speedo cable and gauges off my bike. I cleaned and oiled the cable which did have some smudge in it. I also removed the outer casing to expose the guts to see if anything was damaged; nothing there. I taped my wife's smartphone onto my tach and took it for a spin. Here's what I found out. The Recommended shift points per my Owner's Manual (pg.34) are consistent with Metal Bob's recommended shift points except the numbers are different.

    Recommended Shift Points

    OM 1>2 (14mph) = MB 1>2 (12mph)
    OM 2>3 (22mph) = MB 2>3 (30mph)
    OM 3>4 (31mph) = MB 3>4 (45mph)
    OM 4>5 (37mph) = MB 4>5 over 55 mph

When my speedo is at 45mph I am actually, according to the GPS app, going about 65mph. So yes, when the police officer said he clocked me at 73...he did. So, the surge I'm feeling at each OM interval IS an actual surge. Thing is at 37mph on my speedo I am actually traveling around 55mph.

there is still definitely a problem in there somewhere. My dad followed me with a car and the car speedo, gps, and bike were all within a couple mph of each other

Rocs.... you *MAY* be able to fight the ticket if you can prove that your speedo is off. Some people have gotten lucky on this.... Never hurts to try anyway.

I assume you will want to repair or replace the speedo. Have you attempted to clean/lube internally per bigfitz's tutorial?

Speedos real velocity is a topic in itself. Since I don't have the speedo cable, I ride pairs with a Honda shadow vlx 600 at 55mph my tach was on 4.000rpm, but then we took my friend car, at 55mph on his car my tach was on 5.000rpm...???

On a 650, 4grand @ 55-60 sounds about right. If you are getting 5k revs on the counter in 5th, then you should definitely be going faster than 55.

As far as recommended shift points, remember this:

In 1982 our EPA was trying to cut emissions. What faster way than to tell people to drive slower? Can anyone say "National speed limit"?

On my Maxim, the speedo is almost dead on to my Garmin, within 1mph.
5000 is about 60-61, 4000 rpm is around 52mph. Maybe the Seca is geared a bit taller?
