speedometer and tach removal

    Can i remove my speedo and tach on my 1985 maxim bobber project without causing problems im wanting to replace them with a bicycle computer but im not sure if it will cause electrical problems thanks in advanced

    It would probably be easier to remove all wiring and start fresh with a minimal wiring diagram.

    (Wizards, correct me if I'm wrong, but) I don't believe removing them will cause any issues whatsoever to the engine. The cluster literally only senses the information it displays. The engine/ignition/etc is not dependent on the speedo/tach cluster.

    That said, you should still have the other wires in that rat's nest connected properly. Disconnecting the ignition switch, kill switch, and key wires will keep an otherwise stock wiring setup from working.

    I'm 89.6% sure that when I was putting my bike back together, I was starting the engine without a speedo or tach connected yet, because I later went to an all digital speedo/tach combo display.

    im not to experienced in electronics im really just getting into bikes i dont want to get in to anything i cant fix

    Are you talking about that diode block in the headlight?

    No, there are fuses in the cluster, right behind the indicator panel. The main fuse is under the seat though.

    I'm not talking about the diodes....
