What shape of light so you prefer?

  1. Square is for squares. I'm down with the round!

There is ongoing debate regarding rectangular headlights on our xjs. Some love 'em, others feel they look like an aquarium used to test the fish finder gauges. Therfore, I am putting out this challenge: post pictures of good looking bikes with square lights, or lights that are not a circle. Fairing, non fairing, custom, whatever, just find me pics of good looking square lights!

The thing that makes the XJ750 look a bit odd is the height of the headlight. Drop it down 2" and it won't look so goofy (but relocating the fog light makes that a hassle).

Notice how much better the fully faired '84 looks compared to the unfaired XJ750

When I first got my Maxim I fully intended to replace the headlight with a round one. As we started riding together, though, it kind of started to grow on me a little. Now I am kind of at the point where thinking about changing it kind of feels like suggesting to your old lady that she could use a little lift here or there. I don't know, it might still happen, but I'm in no hurry.

In general, I think they look more in place on a sportier style bike than a cruiser. I prefer a cruiser style, so I don't generally care for them. One of the things I love about my Maxim is the mix of cruiser styling with the performance of an inline 4: best of both worlds! So, I would say for my pic of a bike with a good looking square light, I'd go with the one in my profile pic!

Not without fabricating mounts and probably doing some additional work. The '84 is built on the XJ900 frame, which is a fair bit different from the '82 XJ750 frame.

It looks like the 84 has a larger headlight, but is that correct? Or an illusion?

The headlights are the same size. The fairing and the smaller front wheel conspire to make it look bigger.

I love me a K-bike. It's a shame the pistons are on the wrong side though.

I like the light from a round headlight because the beam is round. A square headlight is well you know square beam.;)

It was hip to be square...

    I can't figure out why...

Ohhh, Taku. You had me at K-Car. A nice Reliant automobile.
Grandpa drove em, Dad had a few, including the wagon, cruised in one in high school, nothing but bulletproof.

Tri-5 Chevies were square, but that didn't mean the lights had to be.

The K-car designer worked from Monday through Saturday.
On Sunday, he took a rest and said "it is good".

    Then all the king's people

    and all the other stylist-brethren

didn't want to design all over again.
