My Seca Turbo is having some starting troubles. It seems like it draws a lot of battery power, and in fact, the battery has died on two occasions where I've had to charge it again with a charger. When the battery has full charge, it seems as if the bike starts up incredibly fast, but if not, then it can take a long while. And, it seems as if I only get it started after a lot of work, and running down the battery from its depleted state to a state of almost complete lack of charge.

I've heard that in this case it can usually be a simple issue with the brushes being worn out and drawing far too much power on startup. And that, a way of determining this is if the bike seems to almost turn over only as you are letting go of the starter button. My bike does in fact do this. Quite simply, I'm looking for a cost and perhaps a location in which I can order these brushes to see if they solve my troubles (which I think they will).

    Thanks much
    Gavi

Do you have a multimeter gavio_men? as it nearly sounds like a battry issue.

if have multimeter or can borrow , charge the bat then attach m/m and as press start watch for a large voltage drop , if there is batt is us [not below canada and thats strange too]..

or how long as in trying to start does it take for the batt to flatt....

With Hoonz on this one. If your battery is discharging then you may have one of two iissues. Bike not charging or battery dying and not holding charge.

If the starter brushes are worn then they will make the problem worse, so I would check battery first then check the starter brushes as well.

If both are in good order then all your starting problems will vanish.

I just bought brushes for my 650 Seca, still available from Yamaha. Not sure if they're the same for turbo...

when your bike (or car for that matter) just wont start, and the culprit is the brushes, a good kick, or tap with a hammer will get her turning again. However be warned, this is a temporary fix, as your brushes will still need replacing should this be the case. It is a relatively easy repair turns out. But dont wait too long or you will damage your commutator on your starter motor. And that is much trickier to repair... and is sometimes impossible. At that point you would be looking at getting a whole new motor.
