Starter Clutch Replacement - Help

    I took the clutch out to check not the starter clutch. Had the starter apart brushes looked good. Cleaned it and polished up the armature. I’ll have to go back and check voltage drop while cranking thinking it was 12.7 same as the battery. We jumped around the solenoid and same results. What puzzles me is why would it crank with no problems with the spark plugs out?
    But I’ll go back and check everything thing again.

    Simple......with the plugs out, there's no compression, therefore no resistance and 'no' load on the battery. These engines will turn over on very little current, but it takes a good hot battery to get the ignition circuit to fire properly.
