Hi im new here. I have an 82 yamaha seca750 and the starter is shot. I was wondering if parts off of a maxim would work as they seem to be more common and cheaper. Thanks for any help.

Used starters will need rebuilt. Why not get a rebuild kit from Chacal and fix the one you already own?
Replacing your starter motor brushes w/ pics

To answer your question: All XJ650 and XJ750/700 (and I'm mostly sure XJ900) starters will interchange.

Well, that will kill a starter all right. Save the rest of it; might be useful later.

Trying something that might be a bit sketchy. Glued the magnet back into place and going to put some new brushes in. Worst case it falls apart and im back where i am now. Fingers crossed.

It might work for a couple seconds if the electric current is able to get through the glue.........

The magnets were glued in to begin with. I've repaired starters that way before (typicaly older starter/generators where no replacement parts are available) without issue.
Ideally you want to degrease the case and use a 2-part epoxy.

Update on starter. I got some brushes from a local shop for 6 bucks. Got the ground side in just fine but the positive side needed to be soldered on. Since i dont have a soldering iron i asked a buddy to give it a shot, that was a mistake. He couldn't get it to stick and made the wire rock hard with solder. Long story short i ordered a new set from the folks at rmstator for 7 bucks with the brush already set on a new bolt. We will see about the parts when they get here but they have some of the best cust. Service I've ever experienced.
