I have removed the block of carbs from the bike and removed the float bowls from the carbs. Then I removed and cleaned out the main jets. The pilot jets are also removed. The output end of the pilot jets have a very hard light grey material filling the end. I have an ultrasonic cleaner and have tried several solvents with no success. A 1/32 drill bit removes it. I decided drill out one. It looks like there is no restriction in the tube. Is this right? If there is I need to trash all 4 and replace with new. I am reading the In The Church of clean and vow to do it right the first time. I am retired and have no schedule to meet on the rebuild. I have a budget of $1000 including tools and no cosmetic work planned only mechanical. The bike has about 11500 miles. Carbs and the front brakes are all the need work so for. At some point the valve gaps will need to be set.
Thanks for reading and any suggestions.
