I'm new owner of 82 xj550 and have an intresting starting question.
Sometimes when I try to start my bike and press the start button nothing. Then if I turn my steering all the way to left I get starting action.
Is my bike possessed or is there a reason for this like some kind of switch issue?

sounds like you some connector issues or a broke wire i would start at the switch and make sure that the contacts are clean and in working order. search for the wirering diagram for you bike ither hrer on the site on on the web. trace the problem back to the starting point. be sure to check and see how the insulation looks on the wirer it self. let us know if you you get it working or not

OK I think I figured it out.
I followed the step by step per Gamaru
I traced wire harness bundle (Blue/white) from the start button to under the fuel tank when tank was removed there was a wire connector.
When I disconnected it it showed some corrosion and looseness. Cleaned up the corrosion tightned the pins slap on some dielectric grease and bingo fires it up all the time.

Next is g*d d**n fork seal along with MC rebuild.
