The starter is not engaging or even clicking when I hit the button. I have redone the battery connection and taken apart the kills switch and starter button and cleaned the points with no results.

is this when in neutral? if not, does it do anything different when in neutral?
does your "oil" light come on when you press the starter?
is your sidestand switch still hooked up? this was an issue on my bike.

it could also be an issue with the solenoid (have you checked, is it getting 12v to the solenoid?) or with the ignition switch...if it's not and easy one (sidestand) you should get a schematic and start checking stuff with a volt meter

    just my .02 of course
