Ok I almost got the bike running but I have one last problem. Here is the scenario. I have had the carbs cleaned by a mechanic (didn't want to tackle that one on my own, Ill try at the fall carb clinic), have new gas in the tank, fuel line is flowing with the fuel filter in. I bought brand new intake boots to seat them properly between carbs and air box. Everything looks good but it won't start right. If I try to start it after sitting a while the very first time it will start for a second but then die. After that I shoot a shot of starter fluid in and it starts. As long as I keep the throttle going it will run but when it resets to idle it stalls. If we take it out for a ride and run it a few mins then come back and stop it it will restart but same thing. Starts then stalls. I have also played with the main idle screw but haven't been able to get it to catch and idle. Any ideas???

You still have some jets clogged. Clean the carbs several more times paying special attention to the brass parts underneath the pilot jets that won't come out. Make sure the floats are all set properly to the correct height. Then balance the butterfly valves by eye and set them so they just barely open about the same as the thickness of a business card so the edge is just starting to expose the first small hole in the top of the bore. Make sure the idle mixture screws are all set to about 2 1/2 turns out. If you need to use the choke but it doesn't seem to work you will also need to clean the starter jets down in the bottom of the float bowls. When you get it started check the mixture with a colortune and adjust the mixture screws for the proper blue color and you will be all set.

Also, make sure your idle SPEED is set at about 1100 rpms, these engines don't seem to be able to idle at much less than 900 rpms.
