Hello, just got my bike,an XJ 750 '82 and here is my first problem. The battery is charged and I get a clicking from what looks like a solinoid or relay next to the battery. Is that a normal part that goes bad?

    Thanks in advance

Anything can go bad, but clean the teminals & re-tighten first.
Does the motor spin if you cross the 2 terminals on the starter relay?

clicking usually means your solenoid is good...

cross the terminals of the solenoid with a screwdriver and see if it starts that way, if it does your solenoid is bad. (what wizard said)

have you replaced your fuse box? that fixed my similar electronic issues. pm chacal re blade type fuse box

Motor does not start when jumping between circuits on solenoid. Trying to narrow problem before ordering parts. Starter?

Sounds like a bad starter. Make sure you have 12v on it with a meter before you condem it. Taking them out and bench testing is also a good idea.
